A half round tube shield is a semi-circular cover that fits over the gas-facing side of a boiler tube and takes the erosion that would otherwise thin the tube wall. Ruby Infra Projects manufactures half round tube shields in every grade, in the diameters, lengths and thicknesses your boiler needs, to your drawing, sketch or sample.
Sheet cutting, rolling, bending, grooving, welding and polishing are done in-house at Umbergaon, and material test certificates from Government or NABL-accredited laboratories are provided on every batch.
Half round shields protect the exposed face of tubes wherever fly-ash laden flue gas is fastest or changes direction.
Half round shields cover the gas-facing side of each tube in a bank where fly-ash erosion is worst.
Used on R/H and S/H tubes in hot gas zones; grades 304L, 309 and 310 are typical choices.
Protect tubes at gas-path openings, walls and sootblower lanes where velocity is high.
Combine with bend shields on U-bends and elbows. Send a drawing for the exact form.
The right grade depends on the metal and flue-gas temperature at each location. Ruby Infra Projects makes half round tube shields in whichever grade your OEM drawing or plant metallurgist specifies.
| Grade | Why choose it | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| SS 304 / 304L | Good strength and corrosion resistance; 304L is the low-carbon version for welded fabrication | Lower-temperature zones, economiser, LTSH |
| 309 (Cr23Ni13) | Higher chromium and nickel for better oxidation resistance than 304 at elevated temperature | Intermediate-temperature zones |
| 310 | About 24–26% Cr and 19–22% Ni: strong oxidation and scaling resistance at very high temperature | Hot gas-path, high-temperature reheater and superheater zones |
| 316 / 316L | Molybdenum improves resistance to corrosive condensates and chlorides | Cold-end or corrosion-prone locations |
| 321 | Titanium-stabilised against intergranular corrosion after exposure to roughly 425–850 °C | High-temperature service with sensitisation risk |
| Other grades | Any other grade can be made on request | Send your specification |
Grade guidance is general. Always confirm the grade for each zone with the boiler OEM or your plant's engineers.
A half round tube shield (also called a half round boiler shield or half round tube guard) is a semi-circular stainless steel cover that fits over the exposed, gas-facing side of a boiler tube. It protects the tube wall from fly-ash erosion and soot-blower wear. When it wears out, you replace the shield at the next shutdown instead of repairing or replacing the pressure-part tube.
Yes. Ruby Infra Projects manufactures half round tube shields at its GIDC Umbergaon works in every grade, to your drawing, sketch or sample, with custom sizes and cut-to-length service. See the full boiler tube protection shield range.
Ruby Infra Projects makes half round tube shields in every grade your boiler needs. Common choices include SS 304 and 304L for lower-temperature zones, 309 (Cr23Ni13) for intermediate temperatures, 310 for the hottest zones, 316/316L where corrosive condensate is a concern and 321 for stabilised high-temperature service. Tell the team your grade and the OEM drawing will confirm the rest.
Reheater tubes see high metal and flue-gas temperatures, so the grade depends on the zone: 304L is often used in cooler sections, while 309 or 310 is chosen for hotter sections. The boiler OEM drawing or your plant's metallurgist should specify the grade for each location; Ruby Infra Projects can then manufacture to that grade.
Give the tube outside diameter, the shield length, the thickness, and whether the shield sits on a straight run or around a bend. The shield internal diameter must clear the tube outside diameter and any weld or fin so that it seats properly. A drawing or a worn sample removes any doubt.
A half round shield covers the gas-facing half of a tube, usually along a straight run. A bend shield is formed to follow the curve of a tube bend. A sleeve wraps the full circumference. Boilers often use a mix of all three. See the boiler tube protection shield page for the full set.
Common methods include clips, straps, tabs and tack welding, depending on the plant's boiler engineering and welding-procedure practice for pressure parts. Tell the manufacturer the fixing method your plant uses so the shield is formed and finished to suit it.
Send tube outside diameter, shield length and thickness, grade, quantity, drawing or sample, fixing method and delivery date. Material test certificates from Government or NABL-accredited laboratories are provided on every batch. Ruby Infra Projects supplies customers in India and overseas and holds an Import Export Code (IEC); include your destination country or port and preferred shipping terms.
